چکیده

The Molten Salt Fast Reactor (MSFR) is a nuclear reactor concept under development in the framework of H2020-Euratom project SAMOSAFER. Given its peculiar characteristics as circulating-fuel reactor, new simulation tools need to be developed and tested for study. In this work, multiphysics solver previously OpenFOAM extended with functionalities analysis design. main focus modelling behavior Gaseous Fission Products (GFPs) inside core their interactions helium bubbling system, foreseen remove both GFPs metallic fission products through flotation. On basis an Euler-Euler able model presence two phases – namely liquid fuel gaseous bubbles , multi-component mixture approach adopted simulate GFP species core, particular on production, consumption, transport, mass exchange removal off-gas system. capabilities are 2D 3D MSFR cases, considering Xe-135 reference nuclide, efficiency system from salt. As figure merit capability, cycle time related extraction specie defined calculated different conditions injection. This work constitutes further advancement concept, extending previous solver. Reliable estimation evolution effect fundamental requirement radioactive source term prediction overall operating innovative

Molten-salt Reactor Chemistry

This document summarizes the large program of chemical research and development which led to selection of fuel and coolant compositions for the Molten-Salt Reactor Experiment (MSRE) and for subsequent reactors of this type. Chemical behavior of the LiF-BeFrZrFrUF4 fuel mixture and behavior of fission products during power operation of MSRE are presented. A discussion of the chemical reactions w...

The Molten Salt Reactor Adventure

A personal history of the development of molten-salt reactors in the United States is presented. The initial goal was an aircraft propulsion reactor, and a molten fluoride-fueled Aircraft Reactor Experiment was operated at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1954. In 1956, the objective shifted to civilian nuclear power, and reactor concepts were developed using a circulating UF4-ThF4 fuel, graphi...

The Multiregion Molten - Salt Reactor Concept

The molten-salt reactor (MSR) concept is one of the most promising systems for the realisation of transmutation. The objective is the development of a transmutational technique along with a device implementing it, which yield higher transmutational efficiencies than that of the known procedures. The procedure is the multi-step transmutation, in which the transformation is carried out in several...

Demand driven salt clean-up in a molten salt fast reactor – Defining a priority list

The PUREX technology based on aqueous processes is currently the leading reprocessing technology in nuclear energy systems. It seems to be the most developed and established process for light water reactor fuel and the use of solid fuel. However, demand driven development of the nuclear system opens the way to liquid fuelled reactors, and disruptive technology development through the applicatio...

Molten Salt Critical Rea~ors for the Transmutation of Transuranics and Fission Products

The primary goal of this work is to study the feasibility of designing molten salt reactors to be critical when fed with, and only with the transuranium isotopes (TUS) and long lived fission products produced in LWRS. Another goal is to estimate the transmutation characteristics which might be attainable from such a Molten Sal t Transmuting Reactor (MSTR). Both moderated and unmoderated MSTR sy...
